There is nothing quite like the Rodeo. The bucking animals, cheering crowds and incredible sights and smells make it a truly addictive experience. The rodeo has a long rich history from cowboys showing off everyday skills gleaned from rough landscapes to major events that attract media and big money sponsors.

Once you get your rodeo on you can never go back and this is why the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo has proved such a major success. Popularly known as the NFR, it became the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo after Wrangler acquired the sponsorship rights for the event. The premium jeans brand is the major sponsor for the event although most people still refer to it as the NFR.

Las Vegas has proved to be a good host to the National Finals Rodeo, hosting it since 1985. It has become so synonymous with the event that a lot of people are quick to refer to it as the Las Vegas Rodeo. In 2014, the NFR celebrated thirty years of the event being hosted in Las Vegas with so much pomp and fanfare. There have been several bids to shift the location to another state but the reputation of Las Vegas as the ultimate travel destination for everybody has kept its hold on the NFR alive.

The recently renovated Thomas and Mack Center has served as the home for the biggest rodeo event in America for so many years. Owned by the University of Nevada and home to the UNLV Running Rebels basketball team of the Mountain West Conference, It provides a melting point for rodeo enthusiasts from around the country and indeed the world with its seating capacity over 20,000.

At the center of the organization of the NFR is the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). This organization is the highest paying American rodeo organization. Every year the National Finals Rodeo plays host to the top 15 PRCA performers in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie down roping barrel racing and bull riding.

Every year thousands clear their schedule and search for deals that guarantee cheap NFR tickets for themselves and their family. As you scour through the NFR schedule for dates that would suit you, we have a comprehensive guide for you to have the best experience ever.

Enjoy the Ambience

Do not be in such a hurry that you forget to take in the truly exciting sounds and sights of the NFR. In partnership with certain host hotels, the NFR provides a complimentary NFR Express Shuttle. This means you do not have to worry about how to get from one point of excitement to another.

The renovations to the Thomas and Mack Center ensure that you do not miss a moment of the action. You are constantly confronted with screens located within and outside the arena showing events as they happen, highlights and incredible moments from past events. You can connect with other fans surround by merchandise, food and music in the fan area.

When the Thomas and Mack Center is not filled with over 20,000 fans making an awesome sight, the fans are scattered around the various shopping centers that litter the area. A key part of travelling lies in getting souvenirs. They not only serve as handy gifts to give to loved ones but also serve as items that remind you of incredibly fun moments.

The Las Vegas shopping experience is one activity that does not need to be on the NFR schedule for people to jump right into it. Different shopping centers provide an opportunity for you to buy fun outfits, gear and souvenirs. You can get into the spirit of the event by getting top quality boots, jeans and hats at very competitive prices.
How to Prepare for Burning Man

If you’ve actually never been to Burning Man before there’s really no way to actually “prepare” for it because, in most cases, it’s going to blow your mind. On the other hand, as far as surviving for a few days out in the desert is concerned, there are definitely a few ways to “prepare” for that and, since that’s what you’re basically going to be doing once you purchase your BurningMan tickets, this blog article should help you a bunch. Also keep in mind that preparation for anything inherently makes that thing easier and so, if you want to, you can call this the “easy way” to prepare for Burning Man. (To heck with those purists who think you have to do this the “hard way”.)

If you’ve never been to Burning Man, Black Rock City is the company that puts it on every year in the Nevada desert. If you’ve never been to the Nevada desert, you need to know that it’s ridiculously hot during the day and gets rather chilly at night so preparation for those extremes is a good idea. What I found when I went my first time was that talking to veterans about how to prepare wasn’t exactly the best way to get the information I needed. Let’s just say it’s a “pride” thing.

How to actually get to Burning Man from the Reno Airport.

After talking to a number of people I was convinced that, since I was flying out to Reno, Nevada to attend, I would need to rent a car to get to the event. If I would have read the entire Burning Man website however I would’ve found out that there’s actually a shuttle service that will bring you directly to Burning Man called the Burner Express shuttle.

Now, if you’re trying to save money you might think that the $60 cost to get there and the $60 cost to return ($120 in total) is kind of expensive but the fact is that if you take the Burner Express you’re going to be able to get into the Burning Man location almost immediately instead of having to go through the entrance gate, something that can take about five hours. When you leave to go back to the airport it can take even longer and so, unless you’re really keen on standing in line in the hot sun for approximately 10 hours plus, taking the Burner Express shuttle is definitely a good idea. By the way, for those flying into San Francisco there’s a Burner Express shuttle from there as well. One thing to keep in mind is that, if you do take the Burner Express shuttle, there’s a limit per person of 2 suitcases (unless you want to pay extra to bring a third).

When you buy your Burning Man tickets you should rent a bike at the same time so you don’t forget.

One of the craziest things about the Burning Man website is that they have a full 3 separate pages about bicycles. What kind of bikes to bring if you are bringing your own, how to transport them and so forth. The only thing that they didn’t mention was the fact that you could actually rent a bike from one of the other camps nearby. They do mention that there are bicycle rental places in Reno (and they are actually cheaper than where I rented my bike) (Playa Bike Repair) but, since I didn’t rent far enough in advance, they were all out.

Frankly, I got lucky because I was told about the bike rentals at the “camps” and rented mine a few weeks ahead of time. If I wouldn’t I would have been completely out of luck because not only was Playa Bike Repair completely out of bikes when I finally did get there but, as they told me, every other bike rental place was out as well. So, if you’re keen on having a bike to get around while you’re at Burning Man, you definitely should either rent one in advance from one of the other camps nearby or rent one from a bicycle rental place in Reno well in advance of Burning Man 2016.

You can pay one of the nearby camp’s for all of the things that you’re going to need while you’re at Burning Man.

I already mentioned that you can rent a bicycle from one of the other “camps”. These are actually groups of campers have combined their resources to make getting everything they need for the week to the Burning Man event a lot easier. For example, instead of everyone taking in their own food, one person with a big truck will carry in a week’s worth of food for the entire group. Getting into these camps isn’t exactly easy and, in some cases, some of them have actually closed their memberships and there’s no way to join them at all, even if you are a close friend of an existing member. On the other hand some of the camps sell memberships to the general public and some of them will let you into their camp if you are friends with a member.

The best reason to pay dues to a camp (I paid $250) is that, once you do, you’re assured that you’ll have a camping space, food, drinking water and a place to throw away your garbage. You will also (possibly) be able to get a shower during the week, depending on the camp that you sign up with. If you’re wondering why you’d need a place to throw away your garbage it’s because Burning Man does not provide it.

You will definitely want to do some research on these camps before you decide on one and make a Burning Man checklist, if you will, to compare them. The reason is that the camps vary widely in how much they charge and what they provide for those charges. I’ve seen some that charge $300 and give you very little and I’ve seen others that charge $100 and give you an abundance of food and plenty of showers.

By the way, the reason that you will either need to bring in all of your own supplies for the week or use a camp is because, at the Burning Man location, they don’t sell almost any food, water or other types of supplies whatsoever. Thus, either having a camp supply you with the food and beverages that you’re going to need or bringing in your own for the entire week of Burning Man is definitely a must.

Bring a regular camp tent rather than trying to make your own shelter and shade.

One of the things I read before I went to Burning Man the first time was the Burning Man Survival Guide. It had a lot of great information but, after reading it, I got the distinct impression that not only would I need a tent but also a separate tarp or covered to provide shade for the tent.

Now here’s the thing; the Burning Man location is in the middle of the Nevada desert and, during the day, it gets mighty hot. That being said, if you plan to spend most of your day inside your tent you definitely are going to want to have another cover above it for shade. That being said, most tents actually come with an extra shade cover that you can use so that it doesn’t turn into an oven during the day, so bringing a next her shade cover is unnecessary. That being said, there’s actually very little chance that you’re going to be spending any daylight hours in your tent because there’s so much stuff to do that you probably won’t go back to your tent until late at night.

One thing you definitely do want to have with you are some extra heavy stakes to anchor your tent to the ground because, during the day in the Nevada desert, it can get quite windy and if you don’t have it staked firmly to the ground you might come back to your tent at the end of the day to find out that it’s been destroyed. Not only that but, if your tent does come loose in high winds, it could be a hazard for other people at the Burning Man event. (They’re called “burners” by the way.)

One extra thing that you might want to bring is an electric fan that you can use either in the morning while you’re still sleeping or in the early evening when you get back to your tent in order to circulate air and get any hot-air out quickly.

One thing that they do sell at Burning Man is ice, so make sure to bring a cooler, a thermos and a spray bottle.

The company that organizes Burning Man, Black Rock City, knows that if you gather any group of people in the middle of the Nevada desert and you don’t provide them with water (at the very least) you’re going to be in for some big trouble. That being said, one of the few things that the event organizers actually do sell at Burning Man are large bags of ice. When I was there I usually bought at least one bag of ice (crushed, 10 pounds) every afternoon that I would stuff into my backpack and take with me back to my campsite. There I had two big plastic water jugs and I filled them with the ice and basically let the sun do its thing.

This usually gave me ice water for up to about three hours, well worth it to have refreshing water to drink during the hottest hours of the day. If I would have known about it ahead of time however I would have brought at least a small cooler with me on my flight (or I would have purchased a bigger one in Reno before taking the Burner Express out to the site) because it would’ve been nice to have been able to buy a few bags of ice and keep it cold for at least the better part of the day. I would also have brought myself a thermos to carry around with me because, as you might guess, a regular plastic water bottle won’t keep your ice water cold for much more than about an hour.

One of the things that I did see people carrying all over the place at Burning Man were Camelbak water containers but, since these aren’t insulated, they were basically drinking water that was either room temperature or, after a few hours, hot. In my opinion it would definitely be worth it to have a decent thermos with a strap so that you can carry it around just as easily and, instead of drinking hot water on a hot day, drink ice cold water instead. (Yes Any water is better than no water but if you can actually drink cold water instead of hot, why wouldn’t you?)

One final thing that I would definitely suggest you bring is a spray bottle similar to what you can use to spray your houseplants at home. I saw a few people carrying those around at Burning Man and, occasionally, one of them would even give me a nice cooling spritz. (There was one pretty lady that actually had scented her water with lavender.) During the middle of the day you’d be amazed how incredibly refreshing that darn spray bottle spray was. Also, one of the interesting things about Burning Man is that they expect you to somehow contribute to the event. Unless you’re a stilt walker, a fire breather or an incredibly gorgeous woman with “bodacious tatas” that you can flash at a moment’s notice, I would think that carrying around a water bottle and misting people would suffice.

With the Burning Man dates for 2016 coming up quick, and Cheap Burning Man tickets going on sale soon, the advice above should definitely help you prepare for what will no doubt be one of the most interesting, entertaining and hot events you’ve ever been to in your life.

One the of bigger moments in the National League West race during the 2013 Major League Baseball season was a brawl between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks that took place on June 11th at Dodger Stadium. The donnybrook broke out after (then) Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy plunked both Yasiel Puig and fellow pitcher Zack Greinke. The Dodgers took umbrage with one of their aces being hit on the pitching shoulder and punches were thrown, and ejections took place.

At the time, the Diamondbacks were leading the Dodgers by 7.5 games and seemed to be in control, although early, of the NL West. It proved to be a huge turning point for both teams, and when the Dodgers clinched the division after a victory on the Diamondbacks home field on September 19, 2013 in Phoenix, a group of LA players jumped the outfield fence and took a dip in Chase Field’s swimming pool, which is the only one of its kind in major league parks around the country. Rumors flew that the Dodgers also used the pool for their personal toilet, so an already simmering rivalry grew decidedly darker.

Flash forward to spring training 2014 where both the Diamondbacks and Dodgers do their warm ups in the Valley of the Sun. The two teams meet three times before they head to Australia to open the season against each other at the Sydney Cricket Grounds. Each team has been warned, of course, to be on their best behavior as they play the role of ambassadors for the American pastime down under. All baseball fans, though, know that at some point this season, these two teams are going to lock horns again. Considering how much Australians love their Australian Football League and Rugby, maybe the boys in Dodger Blue and the Dbacks in their Sedona Red should just get it out of the way right up front?

Either way, the Dodgers are stacked this year and backed by some of the deepest pockets in the game. With Matt Kemp poised to return from an injury-riddled 2013 season and arguably the best pitching staff in the game, Dodger fans have huge expectations for 2014. Nothing less than a World Series run will satiate the Dodgers title hungry fan base, while the Diamondbacks look to improve upon two straight .500 seasons. For the team from the desert, they are looking for a return to form for catcher Miguel Montero after a disastrous 2013, as well as the addition of slugging left fielder Mark Trumbo, who can protect Paul Goldschmidt quite a bit more than anyone Kirk Gibson had at his disposal last year.

Will fireworks and fists fly when these two team meet in 2014? You bet, or as the Aussie’s like to say, it’s fair dinkum.

Full disclosure: I hate the New York Yankees. When I see their iconic home uniforms, sporting those pinstripes that just ooze pompousness, I get a little dizzy from the urge to lose my Crackerjacks.
My revulsion stems from growing up a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the mid-1970’s and the utter disappointment I felt in October of 1977 and 1978 after Mr. October, Reggie Jackson, almost singlehandedly beat my beloved boys in blue. Watching my classmates become overnight Yankee fans just chapped my hide and a life time of disdain for the Bronx Bombers was etched in my brain.

As the 2014 baseball season dawns, it is difficult, though, to ignore the fact that this is Derek Jeter’s last go around. As much as I despise his team, it is difficult not to root for him to have a great year. Like his former teammate Mariano Rivera who retired last year, Jeter plays the game right and his level of accomplishment is without parallel among active players. 3,316 hits is nothing to sneeze at, and call me a Baseball pessimist, but I don’t see many of the current crop of major leaguers getting to 3000 hits in their career, let alone 3300+. There is a chance, though, of Jeter’s squeaky clean teammate, Alex Rodriguez, who won’t be suiting up this year due to steroid troubles getting there, but that’s another blog all together.

The Flip

I think the first moment that really cemented a respect and admiration for Jeter, at least for me, was in the 2001 American League Divisional Championship series when "the flip" occurred. Considering that the Yankees had pretty much dominated the AL for four straight seasons, I know I was rooting for the Oakland A’s to knock’em out in that first round matchup and they had the Yankees up against the ropes after winning the first two games in New York. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, Terrence Long’s double into the right field corner looked like it might score Jason Giambi from first and tie the game, but Derek Jeter came out of nowhere to make "the flip" and save the Yankees bacon.

Good Bye, Jeter

As Jeter enters his final spring training and readies himself for his swan song, it is hard to imagine that his final trip around the bases will be anything but must-see tv for the general fan, and worth a trip to the ballpark for those lucky enough to get to see him play. With a strong season at the plate, Jeter can quiet whispers that he has hung on too long after last year’s injury-plagued season. Sure he’ll receive the obligatory golf clubs from opposing teams as he makes a final visit to their stadium, but for Jeter, the only real prize is one more ring for his collection.

Teenage Time Killer. Supergroup with Dave Grohl, Corey Taylor, and More Big Names.

The concept of the rock and roll “super group” is not new. Two of the all-time biggest super groups came from the late 60’s when David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash banded together to form CSN (which later became both more interesting and got an extra letter when Neil Young was added to make them CSNY), as well as British heavy metal precursors, Cream, which brought together Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton. Since those days, a great number of supergroups have come and gone, but recently, some of the more exciting news to come out of the punk and metal music communities is the formation of Teenage Time Killer, which boasts a lineup that is a veritable who’s who of the both mainstream and underground music.

The brainchild of Corrosion of Conformity’s original rhythm section, Reed Mullin and Mike Dean, the project started off as way for this powerful twosome to play the music they love with a bunch of friends. As it grew, though, and many of their peers found out about it, Teenage Time Killer has grown into something more than an amazing super group. It is a freaking rock and roll orchestra. Recently, two huge names in the rock world have made their involvement in the project public and the buzz is hot and heavy. Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters (as well as the Seattle quartet, Nirvana, whom you may have heard of) and Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Stone Sour are publicly joining the fray.

Other notable performers who are either already or soon to be involved are Jello Biafra (Guantanamo Bay School of Medicine, ex-Dead Kennedys), Keith Morris (Off!, Circle Jerks, ex-Black Flag), Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Nailbomb, and ex-Sepultura), Tony Forrest (Municipal Waste), Phil Rind (Sacred Reich), Nick Oliveri (ex-Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss), Tommy Vector (Prong, Danzig), Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (The Misfits), Randall Blythe (Lamb of God), Lee Ving (Fear), and Mullin and Dean’s old COC bandmates, Pepper Keenan and Karl Agell.

For those of you haven’t been living under a punk rock, Corrosion of Conformity has enjoyed a 31 year history of making their trademark blend of metal and hardcore for fans around the world. This type of longevity in the music world makes it a lot easier to reach out to other famous friends to do a project of this magnitude, which began on a smaller scale in May of 2013. After the initial recordings took place, word spread and as things like this tend to do, it has taken a life of its own.

All of the instruments on the recording were recorded at Grohl’s home studio in Los Angeles, which for many musicians would be a dream come true itself, but the awesome line up of guest vocalists has heavy music fans everywhere frothing at the mouth to hear this incredible project. Named after a song from classic punk rock band Rudimentary Peni’s eponymous ep, the forthcoming album does not have a release date yet, or even a record label, but it will certainly be a must have for all discerning collectors.

The History of American Football

While this might be a little bit difficult to believe among American Football purists, the history of football in the United States actually began in Ivy League universities. In fact the “father” of American Football, Walter Camp, was an athlete at venerable Yale University. Surprisingly, the new game was actually deemed too violent and was banned at many colleges before being taken up by several Prep Schools on the East Coast. (We told you it would be a little difficult to believe.)

In the 1820s and 30s universities like Princeton, Harvard and Dartmouth were all playing variations of the game. In those days it was more like rugby and that there were huge numbers of players on the field and not a whole lot in the way of rules. This led, obviously, to a lot of craziness and violence on the field that resulted in all sorts of horrific injuries. By the early 1860s yell and Harvard had already banned the game but, even as that was happening, prep schools were embracing it.

At that point in football’s history the kicking game and running game were paramount and the forward pass, something that has come to define the game in modern times, hadn’t even been invented yet. Also, the rules being used were nothing like what we have today as most prep schools had their own varying set of rules.

In 1873 a set of rules were first put together when the heads of several prep schools met in New York City. At that point football more closely resembled soccer and universities like Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, as well as Columbia, Princeton and Yale will still using this mostly kicking version. Harvard however prefer to stay with their Boston version of football which included kicking and carrying the ball.It was actually at Harvard where the term “touchdown” was first used and, at that point in time, it simply referred to when a player actually touched the football to the ground after carrying it over the goal line. Within a few years most of the other schools began to abandon the more “soccer like” version of football in favor of one that more resembled rugby and, in 1876, a set of standardized rules was adopted by most schools.

It was right around this time that Walter Camp, whom we mentioned earlier as the “father” of modern American Football, introduced a number of rules that are still with the game today. He reduced the number of players down to 11 on the field at one time (they were using 15), as well as introducing the “line of scrimmage”. With this new rule the familiar center to quarterback “snap” was born.

Another rule that Mr. Camp introduced was that each team had to advance the football at least 5 yards within 3 plays, something that has now been changed to 10 yards and 4 plays. The reason for this rule was actually that Princeton university was taking advantage of the new line of scrimmage and slowing the game down to a snail’s pace, something that fans weren’t exactly excited about.

If you think today’s game is violent than you would have been appalled in 1905 when 19 fatalities were actually caused on football playing fields around the country. It was for that reason that in 1906 the “forward pass” was introduced into the game and an effort to reduce injuries and deaths.

Kind of makes today’s NFL look a little wimpy in comparison, doesn’t it?

Interesting Things About Rodeos

Although baseball and football are both considered by many Americans to be true American sports the actual fact of the matter is that both of those games find their history in other parts of the world. If you’re really keen on talking about a truly American sport then look no further than the rodeo. It is believed that in 1864 two groups of cowboys, one from one ranch and the other from a competing ranch, met in the town of Deer Trail, Colorado. Their goal; to settle a long-running argument about which group of cowboys could perform everyday ranching tasks the best. This fateful and humble gathering is considered to be the very first rodeo and marks this sport as one of the few, if not the only, sport that has ever been created from an industry (the cattle or beef industry).

At any modern professional rodeo today you’ll find cowboys that, while far removed from these two original two groups, bring the ideals and values that they had with them to the center ring, along with a very large dash of showmanship. While early Cowboys traveled to rodeos on horseback and with covered wagons today’s modern, professional cowboy spends most of their time in custom-made rigs traveling the country from town to town and rodeo to rodeo. Some of the best send their horses and equipment by road and meet them at their destination by commercial or charter plane.

No matter how they get to the rodeo however the Cowboys that compete are still judged on their skills with a rope and also their abilities in several other areas including riding large, dangerous steers. Today’s modern cowboy is also skilled at the business of marketing as well as riding, wrestling and roping, mostly due to the fact that they are competing for very large amounts of prize money. Indeed, as the popularity of rodeo grows stronger around the country and around the world, the prize money gets bigger and bigger. Even though they compete for the same prizes and paychecks however there is still a code of honor among Cowboys that dictates that they help their fellow Cowboys and competitors.

Unlike many other professional sports rodeo is one where riders and performers take their wives and even their children along whenever it’s possible. In many ways this is actually a necessity because, in order to be able to compete in the Wrangler Nationals Finals Rodeo for example, a professional rodeo cowboy will spend more than 200 days on the road per year. It’s for this reason, along with quite a few others, that rodeo is one of the few sports that is a family-oriented, sees families working together and is passed down from father to son (and, to a lesser extent, mother to daughter).

In 1936 the predecessor to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) was formed. Interestingly, it was actually forced into creation when rodeo promoter W.T. Johnson refused to add the entry fees that his competing Cowboys had paid to the rodeo’s total purse (prize money). He was hosting a rodeo at the Boston Gardens and, due to his stubbornness and greed, a large group of Cowboys walked out on the rodeo in protest. Johnson eventually gave in to their demands and the unhappy cowboys formed the Cowboys Turtle Association, a name that was chosen because of the fact that they weren’t afraid to ‘stick their necks out’ to have their demands met (even though they were a little slow to do it). This name was changed in 1945 to the Rodeo Cowboys Association and again in 1975 when it became the PRCA.

To be completely fair the ‘vaqueros’ (literally ‘cow men’ in Spanish) that came over from Spain in the 1700’s and helped show the Mexicans working in the west about riding should get some credit for their part in rodeo’s history. The Mexicans that they taught in turn helped build America’s flourishing cattle market and thus should be given a bit of credit for the horsemanship and traditions that they introduced to the American west. The fact is, most Spanish Cowboys were the sons of noblemen in Spain and were highly trained horsemen. Indeed, horsemanship has been practiced in Spain literally for centuries. Many of the celebrated skills that professional Rodeo cowboys now put on display were taken from the Spanish and, when the west was being used to raise cattle after the Civil War, the ranks of Cowboys grew immensely and they put the horse skills that the Spanish had introduced to good work.

A multi-platinum record selling singer and songwriter, John Mayer is famous not only for his music but for his writing skills, his acting and his winning smile and good looks.
Born John Clayton Mayer on October 16, 1977, Mayer’s first two studio albums included Room for Squares in 2001 and Heavier Things in 2003. His song “Your Body is a Wonderland” has also won him a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

John was born and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut and, after high school, he attended Berklee College of Music in the great city of Boston. Although today he lives in Montana, it was after he moved to Atlanta in 1977 that he became famous and gained the large fan following that he enjoys today.

Most of his music these days is derived from the blues and Mayer has collaborated with some of the greats including BB King and Buddy Guy. Interestingly, his career actually began with mostly acoustic rock but his move to a more bluesy sound is credited for his two awards at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards where he won for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance as well as Best Pop Focal Album for his album Continuum.

His 6th studio album, Paradise Valley, was released in August of this year to mixed but mostly positive reviews. Since entering the music scene his albums have sold over 10 million in the United States and, impressively, over 20 million albums around the world.

Interestingly enough, Mayer’s music is only one of several talents that he has including standup comedy, writing, graphic design and even hosting his own short-lived television show.
Mayer is also known for his work with charities as well as several different environmental causes to which he’s lent his help. For example, he founded the nonprofit organization “Back to You” in 2002, focusing on education, healthcare and the arts. “Back to You” raises most of their funds through Mayer’s auction site where many exclusive items such as his guitar picks and signed CDs have been auctioned off to much success.

Another fascinating talent that Mayer has is designing and he was even quoted in Rolling Stone magazine as saying that one of his biggest dreams was to be able to design a sneaker for Air Max, an acclaimed sneaker design company. He also told Rolling Stone that, in 2003, he actually considered getting out of the music industry and becoming a full-time design student. In fact, guitar models released by Martin Guitars as well as 2 Fender Stratocaster electric guitars that were designed by Mayer are very impressive and much sought after by collectors.

Mayer is also an accomplished writer and has had articles featured in Esquire magazine as well as hosting 4 blogs on the Internet. There is his official site of course and then he also has a Tumblr site, a MySpace page and over on StunningNikon.com a photo blog. Mayer is also quite popular on the microblogging website Twitter where his posts about life in the music industry as well as pictures, jokes and comments about his personal activities.

Mayer writes lyrics as well and, with musician Demi Lovato, penned the words for her song “Worlds of Chance” on her album Here We Go Again in 2009.

As if that wasn’t enough, this multitalented musician has also hosted his own half-hour comedy special on VH1 as well as making numerous television appearances on TV shows such as the Late Show with David Letterman and, in a notable comic turn, on comedy sketch program Chapelle’s Show with host Dave Chapelle.

The New York Football Giants

For more than 88 years the New York Football Giants have been playing American football and thrilling the public around the New York tri-state area. Founded in 1925, the Giants entered the fledgling National Football League (NFL) when it was only five years old. Original owner Tim Mara passed away in 1959 and the team was taken over by his sons Jack and Wellington. The Mara family owns the team to this day.

Like any team in the NFL the New York Football Giants (they were legally named this right from the start and still go by the name today) have had their ups and downs but, starting from their third season, they have been perennial winners and one of the NFL’s powerhouse teams. Over their nearly 90 years of existence they have been winners of eight championships including four Super Bowls.

Not only have the Giants been a darling of New York for many years but football aficionados will tell you that, even though they lost the 1958 championship game in overtime to the Baltimore Colts (23 – 17) that game, more than any other, takes the credit for increasing the popularity of not only the NFL but American football itself around the country and around the world.

The Giants went through quite a drought of championship teams during the 1960s and 1970s but, starting in 1981, they qualified to enter the postseason 7 times. They also went to the Super Bowl 2 times and won both Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV. It was during these years that the team was led by Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells as well as Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor and the great Phil Simms at quarterback.

Today’s team has, for the most part, kept up those winning ways and coach Bill Coughlan and future Hall of Fame quarterback Eli Manning have led the team to two incredible (and most would say improbable) wins against the New England Patriots and superstar Tom Brady. Indeed, in both Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI they came from behind to beat a heavily favored Patriots team. Quarterback Eli Manning, brother of superstar Peyton Manning, was named the MVP of both games.

Many Giants fans will tell you that, as far as Super Bowl seasons are concerned, 1986 is one of the best that the Giants have had over their history. They started their season that year with a loss to the hated Cowboys of Dallas but went on to have an incredible season and, after defeating Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and his San Francisco 49ers 49-3 in the NFC divisional playoff, they went on to defeat the Washington Redskins by blanking them 17-0 in the NFC championship game, earning the right to face the formidable Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI.

Although they were behind at the half 10-9, the New York Football Giants came storming back in that second half of the game and beat the hapless Broncos 39 – 20. By completing a Super Bowl record 88% of his passes (22 out of 25) the Giants Phil Simms was named Super Bowl XXI’s MVP.
Click this is you are Looking for 2014 Football Season Schedule and Tickets

Combat Sports (MMA, Boxing)

Most aficionados of the sport agree that Mixed Martial Arts or MMA more than likely began in ancient Greece at the Olympics. Back then it was known as pankration and was one of the premier hand to hand combat sports enjoyed in that country. There were few rules at the time except for two; you couldn’t gouge your opponent’s eyes and there was no biting allowed. Indeed, it was quite the popular sports in Greece and many of the competitors of the day became heroes to the entire nation and some were even elevated to the status of legends.

The idea of mixed style competitions spread as quickly as martial arts spread around the globe. Many times during the history of MMA there were historic matches from the top practitioner of one martial art against the top practitioner of another, something that would give the winner incredible worldwide bragging rights. The fact is, MMA fighters are some of the most well-rounded in the world because they are forced to learn many different types of combat and martial arts in order to be able to defeat their opponents.

Mixed martial arts as a sport is rapidly growing in popularity around the globe although the biggest contender as far as fans and viewership is concerned is the United States. Some say that its popularity stems from the fact that there are practically no rules, as it was back in ancient Greece. It’s definitely one of the most violent sports on the planet and arguably more dangerous than boxing.

Speaking of boxing, it too has its roots in ancient Greece as well as Rome and Egypt. One of the earliest forms of pugilism, as boxing was called for many years, is in 17th and 18th century England. The vast majority of the fights back then were with bare knuckles and also included wrestling. Similar to MMA there were few rules, no referee, no rounds to speak of and many times no time limit as well.

Boxing back then was quite the brutal affair and matches were fought until one of the two opponents was simply unable or unwilling to keep going. Many times the bouts lasted hours and, back then, they were very few tactics that were forbidden. It was normal to see and opponent gouge someone’s eyes, put them into a chokehold, kick them and even pick up opponent up and throw him. There were also no considerations given back then for the weight of the boxers and no actual recognition of any champion.

Boxing came into its own in Great Britain where the working-class would oftentimes use it as a way to settle disputes. Interestingly, these fights started gaining fans and growing in popularity until England’s upper class took notice. It was then that wealthy patrons started sponsoring fights and fighters with cash prizes and built small arenas where the fights could be held. Schools were opened as well and the noble art of self-defense began being taught to athletic young men from all over the UK.

Both boxing and MMA today are popular in many parts of the world although over the last 20 years boxing has certainly dropped in popularity. Gone are the days of Mohammed Ali or even Mike Tyson, and there are practically no marquee name boxers right now in the boxing world. Mixed martial arts certainly has its fair share of great fighters but, as the sport isn’t extremely popular yet, most MMA champions are only known to fans and followers.

Here are some cheap fight tickets.

Held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, also known simply as Coachella and also Coachellafest and the Coachella Festival, is a gigantic music and arts festival that lasts three solid days and features music from multiple different genres as well as artworks from many different artists. The festival features various stages where the performers are featured and the artwork is displayed. These include the Outdoor theatre, Gobi Tent, Coachella Stage, Sahara Tent and the Mojave Tent. There was also a dome known as the Oasis Dome during the 2006 and 201 festival, giving the performers and artists plenty of space to do their respective thing.

Many of the bands that have performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival are some of the biggest and most popular in the world, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Madonna, Oasis, Radiohead, the Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Beck, Jay-Z and many more. The festival was founded by Paul Tollett in 1993 and is organized by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Live.

Although the event actually got its start in 1993 when Pearl Jam played for 25,000 fans the inaugural Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was in 1999 and was held 3 months after the ‘Woodstock 99’ festival. The reason it was started in this unusual venue (the California desert where daytime temperatures can reach 110 degrees Fahrenheit) was due to a boycott at the time of Ticketmaster and the auditoriums they controlled in southern California. It was an untested and undeveloped site at the time but has since grown to be one of the largest celebrations of its kind in the United States and indeed the world.

More or less 10,000 people were on hand to witness the maiden event and some of the headliners were Beck, Tool, Rage Against the Machine and the Chemical Brothers, among others. It was, in the eyes of the fans, a success and about the only complaint from the people who were on hand to enjoy the festivities was the oppressive heat. It was, however, a financial disappointment and failed to generate any profits for the promoters, a fact that almost put an end to it before it began.

One of the facts that many who have never attended the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is that it is also a huge draw for visual artists and every year there are many sculptures and installation art features that are displayed. The limited edition posters that are designed by artist Emek are also popular and collected by many who love the festival and go there every year.

If you’re keen on attending the only thing you need to do is make your way to the southern California desert and bring your sunscreen and your love of rock music and sculpture. Leave the rest to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and you’re sure to have an excellent time. Oh, and you'll need to buy some cheap Coachella tickets
