Jon M. Huntsman, an American businessman, diplomat, and politician, is not typically associated with the world of theater. However, Huntsman has a unique connection to the theatrical arts that many may not be aware of.

Born in 1960 in Redwood City, California, Huntsman was raised in a family deeply involved in the performing arts. His mother, Karen Huntsman, was a former actress and dancer while his father, Jon Huntsman Sr., was a successful businessman who owned a chemical company that produced food packaging and industrial products.

Despite their different vocations, both of Huntsman's parents shared a love for the arts, often taking their children to see Broadway shows and supporting amateur theater productions in their community. This early exposure to the theater left a lasting impression on Huntsman and helped shape his appreciation for the arts.

Huntsman's connection to theater continued throughout his life. While attending high school in Palo Alto, California, he became heavily involved in the school's drama department, acting in plays and musicals. After graduating from college, Huntsman pursued a career in politics, eventually rising to become the governor of Utah from 2005-2009 and then launched a presidential bid in 2012 before dropping out and endorsing Mitt Romney. Although his focus shifted away from theater, Huntsman remained an active supporter of the arts, serving as a trustee of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and as a member of the board of directors for the National Symphony Orchestra.

In recognition of his contributions to the arts, Huntsman has been honored numerous times, including receiving the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his work in promoting the arts and serving as an honorary chair for the Utah Shakespearean Festival's 50th anniversary.
