The Frontier League is one of the most prominent independent baseball leagues in the United States, providing an opportunity for players who have fallen outside of the Major Leagues or affiliated Minor League teams to continue playing at a professional level. Every year, the league holds a tryout camp and draft to bring in new talent and give players a chance to showcase their skills.

The 2017 Frontier League Tryout Camp & Draft took place on April 24th and 25th in Avon, Ohio, with over 250 players from across the country participating. The event was open to anyone who paid the registration fee, regardless of their previous experience or background in baseball. This allowed for a diverse group of players with various skill sets and backgrounds to come together and compete for a spot on one of the league's 12 teams.

Tryouts were held on the first day of the event, with players going through a variety of drills and exercises designed to test their throwing, hitting, fielding, and running abilities. These tryouts gave team managers and scouts a chance to evaluate each player and make notes on who they thought had the potential to become a valuable addition to their roster.

On the second day of the event, the draft was held. Each team had the opportunity to select up to 36 players, with the order determined by lottery. Teams could also trade draft picks with one another in order to gain an advantage.

The draft is always an exciting time for both players and fans, as it gives teams the ability to add fresh talent to their rosters while also giving players the chance to live out their dreams of playing professional baseball. For some players, this may be their first opportunity to play at a high level, while for others it may be a chance to continue their careers after being released by affiliated organizations.

In total, 34 players were selected in the draft, with outfielders and pitchers being the most popular positions. The River City Rascals had the first pick and selected infielder Jimmy Kerrigan. Other notable picks included pitcher Tyler Beardsley, who was selected 9th overall by the Gateway Grizzlies, and outfielder Malik Collymore, who was picked up by the Normal CornBelters in the third round.

Overall, the 2017 Frontier League Tryout Camp & Draft was a successful event that showcased some of the best talent in independent baseball. While not all players will make it onto a roster, the opportunity to participate in such an event is one that many hopeful athletes relish. The Frontier League continues to provide a valuable avenue for players to pursue their dreams and continue playing the game they love.
