The 2017 Minnesota football season is in the books, and with it comes a new crop of honors for individual players and teams. This year saw some outstanding performances from both the University of Minnesota's Golden Gophers, as well as the state's many high school programs. As always, there were standout athletes who shined above the rest and proved themselves as true leaders on and off the field.

At the college level, Minnesota senior quarterback Conor Rhoda was named the team's MVP following a strong campaign that saw him finish with 1,532 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. His versatility and leadership skills were key to the Gophers' success this year, and he will be sorely missed next season. Similarly, All-American tight end Tyler Johnson finished the year with 74 receptions for 1,122 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning him recognition as one of the best receivers in the country. Both Rhoda and Johnson were key contributors to Minnesota's 5-7 record this season and will leave big shoes to fill going forward.

At the high school level, the 2017 Minnesota Football Honors recognized the state's top performers in various categories. These included awards for Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Team of the Year, among others. standout players included Northfield running back/safety Ian Maas, who recorded over 2,000 all-purpose yards and 29 total touchdowns en route to being named Mr. Football. Additionally, Minnehaha Academy's Niko Scheuerman was awarded the Randy Shaver Prep Athlete of the Year award after dominating at both football and basketball. Overall, these young athletes represent the best of what Minnesota high school football has to offer, and will undoubtedly continue to make their mark in the years to come.
