One of the highlights of the 2017 ShAFF Fringe was the ski and snowboard film “La Liste”, which chronicles French skier Jérémie Heitz’s quest to conquer the 15 steepest peaks in the Alps. With stunning cinematography and heart-stopping footage of Heitz racing down sheer slopes at breakneck speeds, the film left audiences spellbound and breathless.
Another standout film was “Life of Glide”, which celebrates the art of longboarding and the joy of surfing. Directed by legendary skateboarder turned filmmaker Stacy Peralta, the film captures the incredible grace and fluidity of veteran surfer Tom Curren as he glides across the waves in California and Hawaii.
For the adrenaline junkies, there were plenty of high-octane films to get pulses racing. “Not2Bad” features some of the world’s top mountain bikers taking on the challenging terrain of British Columbia, while “Paradise Waits” follows skiers and snowboarders as they push themselves to the limit in the steep and treacherous backcountry of Alaska.
Away from the big screen, the ShAFF Fringe also featured a host of interactive workshops and talks, including a panel discussion on women and adventure sports, and a workshop on how to take better action photography.
