Women's empowerment and sports have always gone hand in hand. Women involvement in sports has been pivotal in the fight for gender equality. Sports not only provide a physical outlet but also promote mental and emotional well-being, discipline, teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
All the Cycle Ladies March workshop was an event organized by CycleLadies Foundation, which aimed at creating awareness about cycling among women and encouraging them to participate in cycling for fitness, recreation as well as competitive purposes. The event took place at Joliba Plaza, Ikeja Lagos State, Nigeria.
The workshop brought together women of all ages, backgrounds and cycling experience levels with the aim of imparting knowledge on biking, bike maintenance, health and wellness tips as well as mastering cycling techniques for safe riding on different terrains.
One of the key speakers at the event was Temitope Bello aka T-Bello, a certified cycling instructor who shared her passion for cycling and motivated the women to embrace it enthusiastically. She spoke about the numerous benefits cycling had to offer, including building core and leg muscle strength, improving endurance and cardiovascular health, among other things.
Ngozi Okonkwo, a domestic cyclist with numerous accolades in national and international matches, shared crucial lessons on cycling safety, proper road etiquette, hand signals and bicycle repairs that every participant found helpful.
The highlight of the event was the practical sessions where the participants were taken through the steps of mounting bikes, balancing, pedaling, steering, maneuvering through potholes, and braking.
Every participant had an opportunity to ride around the plaza with guidance from the instructors while enjoying the lively music from the DJ stand. It was a fun and interactive session that left everybody energized and motivated to continue cycling.
In conclusion, the All the Cycle Ladies March Workshop was a perfect example of how important women's participation in sports can be promoted. Cycling is one of the most active sports and can easily be embraced by women as it offers numerous health benefits, mental alertness and a sense of joy.
