American Freestyle Bullfights in relation to Rodeo

When you think of rodeos, you probably imagine cowboys and cowgirls competing in events like bull riding, team roping, and barrel racing. But there's another type of rodeo event that's been gaining popularity in recent years: freestyle bullfighting.

Unlike traditional bullfighting, which involves killing the animal, freestyle bullfighting is a sport where bullfighters compete against each other in a timed competition. The goal is to avoid being gored or injured by the bull while performing various maneuvers designed to test the bullfighter's agility, athleticism, and courage.

One of the most popular forms of freestyle bullfighting in America is known as "Bullfighters Only" (BFO). Founded in 2015 by professional bullfighters Aaron Ferguson and Cody Webster, BFO has become a staple attraction at rodeos across the country.

The BFO format involves three rounds of competition, with four bullfighters competing in each round. Each bullfighter is given two minutes to perform their routine, which is scored based on several criteria including control, creativity, and degree of difficulty. The top two performers from each round advance to the finals, where they have one more chance to showcase their skills and impress the judges.

In some ways, freestyle bullfighting can be seen as an evolution of traditional rodeo events like bull riding, where the objective is to stay on the bull for as long as possible. Bullfighters, meanwhile, use their agility and speed to outmaneuver the bull and avoid getting hit. It requires a different set of skills than other rodeo events, but it's still very much rooted in the same cowboy culture.

Like any extreme sport, freestyle bullfighting is not without risks. Despite the safety precautions taken by organizers, bullfighters are still exposed to a certain amount of danger. Injuries are not uncommon, and some bullfighters have been seriously hurt in the ring. However, proponents of the sport argue that these risks are part of what makes it thrilling and exciting to watch.

Despite its relatively short history in the world of rodeo, freestyle bullfighting has already become an important part of many events. It adds a new level of excitement to traditional rodeo competitions, and allows fans to see a different side of the cowboy culture that they may not have seen before. Whether you're a seasoned rodeo fan or just looking for something new and exciting to watch, freestyle bullfighting is definitely worth checking out.
