He famously described his approach as "An experiment in modern music... It's a sort of musical kaleidoscope of America, of our vast melting pot, of our unduplicated national pep, of our metropolitan madness."

In many ways, American Rhapsody represents the culmination of Classical music's long journey through history. It shows how this ancient form can still be evocative and relevant to contemporary audiences, even as it adapts and evolves to embrace new styles and sounds. At its core, Classical music is about exploring the human experience through sound, and Gershwin's masterpiece does just that, articulating the complexities and contradictions of 20th-century America with passion and elegance.
