Belaval’s use of humor has been present throughout her career. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she initially pursued a career in acting before finding her calling in journalism. She landed her first job at WAPA-TV in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she worked as a reporter and producer for eight years.
It was during this time that Belaval began incorporating humor into her segments. She realized that people were more likely to watch and engage with stories that made them laugh. Her ability to find the comedic angle in any situation soon became a trademark of her reporting.
Despite her success in Puerto Rico, Belaval took a leap of faith and moved to Chicago in 2006 to pursue a new opportunity at WGN-TV. At first, she struggled to adjust to the harsh Midwestern winters and was admittedly homesick. However, it wasn’t long before she found her stride and started producing some of her most memorable work.
One of Belaval’s most popular segments on WGN-TV is “Around Town,” where she explores different neighborhoods and highlights local businesses and landmarks. Her quirky personality and infectious laughter have won over viewers, and she has become a beloved figure in the Chicago community.
Belaval’s comedic talents have also earned her a spot on The Second City’s Diversity and Inclusion Program. This prestigious program provides training and performance opportunities to comedians from diverse backgrounds.
In addition to her work on WGN-TV, Belaval is also an accomplished author and public speaker. Her book, “Mamá, Mi Mejor Amiga” (Mom, My Best Friend), is a tribute to her mother and the lessons she taught her about love and perseverance.
