Annie Griffiths is a highly accomplished and talented photographer who has been capturing the beauty of the world through her lens for over three decades. However, her love for storytelling extends beyond photography and into the world of theater.

Griffiths has worked with the National Geographic Society for over 25 years, traveling to more than 150 countries and documenting diverse cultures, wildlife, and landscapes. Her stunning images have been featured in countless publications, exhibitions, and books, including eight that she authored herself.

However, it was during her travels in Africa that Griffiths discovered her passion for theater. She witnessed firsthand how powerful storytelling through performances could be in bringing communities together, promoting dialogue, and encouraging empathy.

After returning from Africa, Griffiths co-founded Ripple Effect Images, a nonprofit organization of filmmakers and photographers who focus on creating visual stories of women and children in underprivileged and underserved areas around the world. They work with NGOs to create films and multimedia presentations that are used for advocacy and fundraising purposes.

In addition to her work with Ripple Effect Images, Griffiths has also become involved in theater as a way to further promote dialogue and understanding. In 2018, she collaborated with the Virginia-based theater company American Shakespeare Center to create a series of interdisciplinary performances titled “Eco Disrupted.”

The project explored the impact of environmental degradation on communities around the globe and utilized Griffiths’ stunning imagery as a backdrop to enhance the emotional impact of the performance. By combining theater, music, dance, and multimedia, “Eco Disrupted” became a compelling and dynamic call to action for audiences.

Griffiths’ passion for storytelling and social justice has led her to explore different avenues for sharing important messages with audiences around the world. Whether through photography, film, or theater, she continues to inspire and engage audiences with her powerful storytelling abilities.
