Music

Anthony Newman is a well-known and respected figure in the world of classical orchestral music. Born in Los Angeles in 1941, Newman showed a great aptitude for music from an early age and quickly became an accomplished pianist and organist.

As a young man, Newman attended the Julliard School of Music in New York City where he focused on becoming a concert pianist. He made his debut as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the tender age of 18 and went on to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world.

However, it was when Newman discovered the harpsichord that his career truly took off. He fell in love with the instrument and began studying Baroque music in depth. Newman quickly earned a reputation as one of the foremost experts on Baroque music and became known for his innovative and virtuosic performances.

Newman's career as a performer has been nothing short of remarkable. He has performed over 170 different works for harpsichord alone, including all of Bach's keyboard concertos. He has also recorded more than 200 albums, ranging from Baroque and classical pieces to contemporary and experimental compositions.

In addition to his performance career, Newman is also a respected conductor and composer. He has conducted many prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony, and his compositions have been performed by numerous ensembles around the world.

One of Newman's greatest contributions to classical orchestral music is his advocacy for historically informed performances. He believes that in order to truly appreciate and understand classical music, it must be performed the way it was originally intended – using authentic instruments, techniques, and styles of the period.

Newman has been recognized for his many contributions to classical orchestral music with numerous awards and honors. These include the Avery Fisher Prize, the Peabody Conservatory's George Peabody Medal, and an Emmy Award for his contributions as a composer.

Today, Anthony Newman continues to be an important figure in the world of classical orchestral music. His innovative performances, passionate advocacy, and tireless devotion to his craft have inspired countless listeners and musicians alike.
