One production in particular that has left its mark on Broadway is Big Fish. Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the subsequent film adaptation directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish brings to life the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who spins tall tales about his extraordinary life to his skeptical son, Will.
The musical made its debut on Broadway in 2013, starring Tony Award-winning actor Norbert Leo Butz as Edward Bloom. The production was directed and choreographed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman, with music and lyrics written by Andrew Lippa.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Big Fish made waves in the Broadway community with its spectacular sets and magical storytelling. The Broadway show featured a “spectacular array” of giant butterflies, a cannonball-catching mermaid, and even a giant singing circus elephant, all brought to life through innovative stage craft and stunning special effects.
