Bobby Nesbitt is a well-known pianist and singer, famous for his work in the South Florida music scene. He has performed in many venues across the region, including at the Key West Symphony Orchestra. Despite his popularity as a performer of jazz standards, pop songs, and show tunes, he has also been known to incorporate classical music into his repertoire.

Bobby Nesbitt’s love of classical music began early in his life. As a child growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he was surrounded by the sounds of classical music, which he heard frequently thanks to the influence of his musical parents. His father played trumpet and his mother played the piano, and both exposed him to many great works of classical music.

Nesbitt credits his first teacher, Maud Hixson, with instilling in him a deep appreciation for classical music. He said that she was “a fabulous teacher who started me out on a Bach Prelude and Fugue in C Major when I was just nine years old.” Nesbitt continued to study classical music throughout his childhood and teenage years, and later went on to earn a degree in Piano Performance at Louisiana State University.

After moving to South Florida, Nesbitt continued to perform and compose music in a variety of genres. He became well-known for his interpretations of classic jazz standards and pop hits, but he never forgot his roots in classical music. Over the years, he has worked to incorporate classical music into his live performances and recordings.

In 2016, Nesbitt released an album called "Bobby Nesbitt Salutes The Piano Men: Gershwin To Elton John." The album features covers of songs by notable pianists and composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Billy Joel, among others. Nesbitt’s arrangements of these songs showcase his extensive knowledge of classical music theory, as well as his skill as a pianist.

Despite his focus on jazz and popular music, Nesbitt is still deeply connected to classical music. He believes that it has influenced all forms of music, including the genres he performs in most often. In an interview with South Florida Gay News, he said that “anybody who plays pop music or jazz is sort of standing on the shoulders of everybody else who’s come before them, and a lot of those musicians have played classical music.”

Bobby Nesbitt’s versatility as a musician has allowed him to explore a wide range of musical styles and genres, but his roots in classical music continue to influence his work. His incorporation of classical music into his music showcases both his skill as a performer and his love for the genre.
