Born Scott Thompson in 1965 in Cocoa Beach, Florida, Carrot Top got his start in comedy during his college years at Florida Atlantic University. While studying marketing, he began performing at local comedy clubs, eventually dropping out of college to pursue comedy full-time.
Early on, Carrot Top struggled to find his voice in the highly competitive world of stand-up comedy. He was often ridiculed for his appearance, which he eventually embraced by growing out his red hair and adopting the moniker "Carrot Top."
However, it wasn't until Carrot Top started incorporating props into his act that he really began to gain popularity. His signature style includes using absurd prop gags to punctuate his jokes, from giant cell phones to oversized sunglasses.
Despite his success on stage, Carrot Top has faced criticism from some in the comedy world who see his prop-based act as gimmicky or lacking in substance. In response, Carrot Top has defended his style as simply a different approach to comedy.
