Celeste Rodrigues was a Portuguese fado singer, who became a prominent figure in the world of music for her expressive vocals and emotional performances. Although she primarily sang fado, a traditional Portuguese style of music characterized by mournful melodies and poetic lyrics, Celeste's artistry also touched the realm of classical music.

Born on March 14, 1923, in Fundão, Portugal, Celeste came from a family of musicians and began singing alongside her sister Amália Rodrigues at a young age. She soon developed her own unique style that won over audiences worldwide, earning her several accolades throughout her career.

Apart from her contributions to fado, Celeste also worked with notable composers and contemporary artists, showcasing her versatility as a musician. She collaborated with renowned Portuguese composer Fernando Lopes-Graça, who wrote a few songs specifically for Celeste's voice, including "Barco Negro" and "Canção do Mar."

In addition, Celeste performed on a number of classical music stages in Portugal and abroad, displaying her skills to a broader audience. One of her most memorable performances was at Lisbon's São Carlos National Theater, where she graced the stage with an ensemble of classical musicians led by conductor Pedro Osório to perform a concert based on Ruy Coelho's operas.

Celeste also appeared on TV shows featuring classical music concerts and festivals, marking her success beyond Portugal's vibrant fado scene. She continued to wow audiences with her powerful voice up until her death at the age of 95.
