The Chicago Blitz was a professional American football team that played for one season in the United States Football League (USFL) in 1983. The team was established after the USFL was founded as an alternative to the National Football League (NFL).

The Chicago Blitz had some of the biggest names in football at the time, including Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie and Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy. They also had a talented roster that included future NFL stars such as Trumaine Johnson, Tim Wrightman, and Kevin Long.

In their inaugural season, the Blitz surprised many by posting a league-best record of 12-6, finishing first in the Central Division and earning a spot in the playoffs. However, they were upset in the first round by the Michigan Panthers, who would go on to win the USFL championship.

Despite only existing for one season, the Chicago Blitz made a lasting impact on the sport of football. Levy would go on to coach the Buffalo Bills in the NFL for over a decade, leading them to four consecutive Super Bowls in the early 1990s. Flutie would also have a successful career in both the USFL and NFL, including winning the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award three times.

The USFL itself would ultimately fold after three seasons, due to financial struggles and a failed lawsuit against the NFL. However, the league left behind a lasting legacy, with several innovations that are still used in football today, such as the two-point conversion. Many former USFL players would also go on to have successful careers in the NFL, including Jim Kelly, Steve Young, and Reggie White.

In conclusion, while the Chicago Blitz may have only existed for one season, they and the USFL left a lasting mark on football history. Their success and star power helped pave the way for the league's short-lived but impactful existence, and continue to be remembered by football fans to this day.
