Chicago Express was a minor league hockey team that operated in the Midwest division of the ECHL (formerly known as the East Coast Hockey League) from 2011 to 2012. Although it only had a short lifespan, the team left its mark on the minor league hockey circuit and brought a new level of excitement to the sport in the Chicago area.

The idea for the Chicago Express came about in 2009 when owners Craig Drecktrah and Rich Menna saw a need for minor league hockey in the city of Chicago. The Windy City had not had a professional ice hockey team since the Chicago Hounds folded in 2006. Drecktrah and Menna secured franchise rights from the ECHL and began building their team from the ground up.

In preparation for the inaugural season in 2011, the Chicago Express hired coach Steve Martinson, who had previously led the Anchorage Aces to two championships in the ECHL. Under Martinson's leadership, the team boasted an impressive lineup of players, including ex-NHL players Rob Klinkhammer and Adam Hobson, as well as several AHL veterans.
