Chris Riggins is a name familiar to music fans in the San Francisco Bay Area–especially those who’ve attended live concerts. For years, he’s been a staple on the comedy circuit and his unique brand of comedy has won him thousands of fans. But it’s his work combining comedy with live music that has really set him apart.

Riggins has worked with big names including Mos Def (now known as Yasiin Bey), Del the Funky Homosapien, and many more. His work was first noticed around 2012 when he began hosting The Good Time Show in Oakland–a weekly showcase that featured musicians and comedians from all over the Bay Area. According to Riggins himself, it wasn’t his intention initially. “I started the show because I wanted to create a space for local artists to be themselves without anyone judging them,” he says. “It was a fun way to get people together and have a great time.”

Since then, The Good Time Show has been a constant fixture on the Northern California music scene, drawing in crowds of thousands every week. Over the years, Riggins has been both a performer and a host at the event, using his stand-up skills to introduce each act and keep the crowd engaged between sets. And while Riggins’ jokes during these performances are certainly impressive, it’s his ability to seamlessly blend humor and music into a cohesive package that really makes him stand out.

“Doing music shows is a lot different than doing regular comedy shows,” Riggins explains. “You have to be aware of the audience and cater your material to them.” He goes on to note that it’s important to establish a connection with the audience–something he prides himself on. “When I’m laughing with the crowd and having a good time, everyone else feels it too.”

Despite his success in these hybrid performances, Riggins’ roots lie in traditional comedy. Born in Kansas, he grew up with a love of comedy from an early age. He moved to Oakland in the mid-2000s and began performing at open mics around the Bay Area. After several years of honing his craft, Riggins got his big break in 2011 when he was invited to perform on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno.

From there, his career took off. In addition to hosting The Good Time Show, Riggins has become a regular fixture at comedy clubs and festivals throughout the country. He’s opened for acts like Dave Chappelle and Russell Peters and has even appeared on Comedy Central’s “Roast of Justin Bieber.” And while he’s certainly accomplished a lot in the world of comedy, his work blending comedy and music is what really sets him apart.

Riggins’ unique blend of stand-up comedy and live music has earned him legions of fans in the Bay Area and beyond. And as long as he keeps bringing the laughs, the crowds are sure to follow.
