CHS LiveWELL Field Day 2017 – Promoting Physical Health and Sportsmanship

Children's Health System (CHS) in Birmingham, AL, held its annual CHS LiveWELL Field Day on May 6th, 2017, at the Leeds Memorial Park. The event was open for children of all ages and aimed to promote physical health and sportsmanship among the young audience.

Over 400 participants from different schools in Alabama and surrounding areas attended the event. From face-painting to sack races, tug of war and a bouncy house, children had a great time and enjoyed the various activities. As per the tradition, the opening ceremony started with singing the National Anthem followed by lighting the torch carried by some of the participants.

In addition to outdoor activities, CHS LiveWELL also organized educational booths that focused on different aspects of health like nutrition, exercise, and hygiene. These stations had games and interactive activities which made learning about these topics fun and engaging.

One of the most popular activities was the "Find the Doctor" game where children had to identify specialists based on pictures shown to them. Another activity that attracted everyone's attention was the fitness challenge where participants had to solve problems in math and spelling while doing push-ups, squats, and jumping jacks.

Field day events like this are very important for the development of both physical and mental health in children. They not only provide an opportunity for children to engage in physical activities but they encourage socialization, teamwork, and collaboration as well. Events like CHS LiveWELL Field Day foster sportsmanship and create an environment where children can build self-confidence and learn new skills.

Children today desperately need activities that get them moving and away from screens. When they participate in sports and physical activity, children develop skills such as mindfulness, hand-eye coordination, control over their bodies, and focus, which transfer to the classroom. A fit child is better able to concentrate, sleep well and reduce stress.

The CHS LiveWELL Field Day is a testament to Children's Health System's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles for children. The event provides not only an opportunity for fun but has the potential to change a child's attitude towards exercise and sportsmanship. The participants left with smiling faces, improved fitness, awareness of healthy habits, and a sense of community.

In conclusion, events like CHS LiveWELL Field Day are essential to the development of children's physical and mental health. They provide a space for children to learn new skills, work as a team, and build self-confidence. Fostering a love of sports and encouraging sportsmanship early in life is an investment in our children's success as they grow.
