Cicely Parnas is a renowned cellist who has left her mark on the world of classical music. Her performances are known for their striking clarity, beautiful tone and depth of interpretation. Born in 1991 in New York City, she demonstrated a gift for music at an early age and quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent.
Parnas began studying the cello with her father, noted cellist and pedagogue Leslie Parnas, at the age of four. She later continued her studies with acclaimed cellists including Timothy Eddy and Paul Katz, as well as with legendary pianist Leon Fleisher. Throughout her teenage years, she won numerous competitions and awards, including first prize at the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Competition, the Irving M. Klein International String Competition, and the National Symphony Orchestra Young Soloists' Competition.
Parnas completed her undergraduate degree at Juilliard School, where she studied with Darrett Adkins. During this time, she also pursued her love for chamber music, performing in several ensembles. Her passion for collaboration led her to work with other renowned musicians such as Joshua Bell, Jon Nakamatsu, Ilya Kaler, and Cho-Liang Lin.
Throughout her career, Parnas has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Her concerts have taken her to major cities across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Parnas is regarded as one of the leading interpreters of the cello repertoire, particularly works by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich.
