Constantinos Philippou is a retired professional mixed martial artist who is widely considered one of the best fighters to ever come from Cyprus. He made his name in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he competed in the middleweight division and amassed an impressive record of 9-4.

Philippou was born on May 25, 1979, in Limassol, Cyprus. Growing up, he was always interested in sports – particularly basketball and soccer – but he never imagined that he would make a career out of fighting. It wasn't until he moved to the United States in his early twenties that he discovered mixed martial arts (MMA) and fell in love with it.

Philippou began his MMA training at Team Serra-Longo in Long Island, New York, under the guidance of former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and renowned striking coach Ray Longo. It quickly became apparent that he had an aptitude for the sport, as he won his first five fights in regional promotions before being signed by the UFC in 2011.

Philippou made his UFC debut at UFC 128 in March 2011, where he defeated Nick Catone via unanimous decision. He went on to win his next four fights in the promotion, including impressive victories over Jesse Bongfeldt, Riki Fukuda, and Tim Boetsch. During this time, he demonstrated his powerful striking and sound grappling skills, making him a formidable opponent in the middleweight division.

However, Philippou suffered setbacks against Francis Carmont and Luke Rockhold, which caused him to reassess his MMA career. After losing to Rockhold at UFC Fight Night 35 in January 2014, he announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 34.

Despite his relatively short MMA career, Philippou left a lasting impression on fans and fellow fighters alike. His striking ability, coupled with his toughness and heart, made him a fan favorite. In addition, his success as a Cypriot fighter paved the way for others from his country to pursue MMA as a viable career option.

Today, Philippou continues to be involved in combat sports, albeit in a different capacity. He heads his own gym, Ultimate Athletics, where he trains aspiring fighters of all ages and levels. He also serves as a commentator for regional MMA promotions in New York and remains active on social media, where he interacts with fans and shares his insights on the sport.
