NCAA baseball is a prestigious competition that features the best college teams in the United States. Cornell University's Big Red baseball team is one of the many exceptional college baseball teams that have made their way to the NCAA.

Cornell's baseball program has been up and running since 1869, making it one of the oldest programs in the country. The team plays in the Ivy League, which includes other strong baseball schools such as Harvard and Dartmouth. Cornell's colors are white and red, and their home ballpark is Hoy Field, which can seat over 5,000 spectators.

One key difference between college and professional baseball is the length of the season. College baseball teams typically play around 50 games each year, while MLB teams play over 162 games. The NCAA baseball season runs from late February through May, with the playoffs culminating in the College World Series in June.

Cornell's baseball team has had some impressive performances in recent years. In the 2018 season, they won the Ivy League Championship for the first time since 1977. The team was led by coach Dan Pepicelli, who was named Ivy League Coach of the Year. Pepicelli's leadership helped the team finish with an overall record of 22-20 and a conference record of 12-8.

One standout player from the 2018 season was senior outfielder Dale Wickham, who hit .331 with 7 home runs and 28 RBI. He was named First Team All-Ivy and was also selected in the 21st round of the MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins.

Another notable Big Red alum who made his mark in the NCAA and beyond is John Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick played for Cornell from 1970 to 1973 and was named First Team All-Ivy each year. He also earned All-American honors in 1972 and 1973. Fitzpatrick went on to play professionally for the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals.

In recent years, Cornell's baseball team has faced stiff competition in the Ivy League. Yale has won three straight conference titles, but the Big Red have proven they can contend with the best of them. In 2020, they had a strong start to the season before it was cut short due to COVID-19.

Overall, Cornell University's Big Red baseball team is a talented group of athletes who have represented their school well in NCAA competition. As the Ivy League continues to be a competitive conference in college baseball, expect the Big Red to continue to rise up in the standings and capture the attention of college baseball enthusiasts across the country.
