Club Sport Emelec, also known as CS Emelec, is a professional football club hailing from Ecuador. Despite being an Ecuadorian team, CS Emelec has quite taken the European soccer scene by storm and gained considerable recognition internationally.

The roots of CS Emelec can be traced back to 1929 when a group of students, notably from the Salesiana University, established Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Guayaquil (LDU). In 1939, LDU transformed itself into Club Social y Deportivo Emelec, taking its name from Electra, the electrical company owned by the Estrada brothers who were enthusiastic supporters of the club.

CS Emelec competes in the top tier of Ecuadorian soccer, Serie A, which they have won 14 times. The first championship came in 1957, and then extended to 1972, 1979, 1988, 1993, 1994, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2013, and most recently in 2014, 2015, and 2017.
