On September 16th, 2017, the picturesque Scottish Borders hosted the inaugural Cycle Law Scotland Skinny Tweed Sportive. This event was a highlight on the Scottish cycling calendar, attracting hundreds of cyclists from all over Scotland and beyond. The fun-filled day saw riders take on tough but rewarding routes that showcased some of the most stunning countryside Scotland has to offer.

The Skinny Tweed Sportive had two different routes, catering for both seasoned cyclists and those who were just starting out. The 88.3km route started in Peebles, taking riders through the undulating hills of Innerleithen, Walkerburn, Stow, and Galashiels. Whilst the shorter 61.7km route began in Selkirk, taking riders through some of the beautiful villages of the Scottish Borders, including Melrose, Lauder, and Earlston.

Both routes did not disappoint, offering varied terrain with challenging climbs and stunning descents. It was a test of endurance, strength, and mental toughness, but the breath-taking scenery made it all worth it.

The organizers and volunteers of the Skinny Tweed Sportive were wonderful, as they provided a well-organized event that ran smoothly from start to finish. With plenty of rest stops en-route offering snacks, refreshments and mechanical support, riders had everything they needed to tackle the grueling terrain.

What made this sportive stand out from others was the camaraderie amongst the participants. Cycling can be an individual sport, but the supportive and welcoming atmosphere made this an enjoyable and fun day for everyone. The infectious enthusiasm of fellow cyclists is what helps motivate and drive riders to reach their goals.

There were no shortage of epic moments throughout the day, whether it was the challenging hill climbs or the exhilarating descents the Skinny Tweed sportive offered something for every type of rider.
