Dean Strang Tickets

Dean Strang is a well-known criminal defense attorney who rose to prominence as part of Steven Avery’s defense team in the Netflix documentary series, “Making a Murderer”. While his expertise lies in law, Dean Strang has had some involvement with theater throughout his career.

Strang was born in 1961 in Wisconsin and grew up in a family that was heavily involved in community theater. His parents were both involved in local theater groups, and Strang himself even appeared in school plays during his childhood and teenage years.

However, it wasn’t until much later in life that Strang’s interest in theater would resurface. In 2012, he co-wrote and starred in a one-man show titled “Dial M for Murder: The Ernest W. Beckley Story” at the Bartell Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin.

The play was based on the true story of Ernest W. Beckley, a man who was convicted of murder in 1930s Wisconsin. Strang played the role of Beckley, as well as several other characters, while exploring themes of justice, prejudice, and the impact of media on public perception.

In an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, Strang explained that the experience of writing and performing in the play helped him become a better attorney by forcing him to view cases from multiple perspectives:

“It forced me, as a performer, to think through all of the perspectives in this case and to understand them equally well… I think for lawyers, acting is a really helpful point of comparison, because you’re trying to get inside somebody else’s head.”

While he may not have pursued theater as a full-time career, Dean Strang’s experience with “Dial M for Murder” shows that his interest in the arts has influenced his work as an attorney. As someone who is always seeking to understand different perspectives, Strang has proven to be a valuable advocate for his clients both in and out of the courtroom.
