Throughout her illustrious career, Butler has performed in countless productions across various genres, including plays, musicals, operas, and concerts. Some of her notable roles include Mama Morton in Chicago, Dinah Washington in Dinah Was, Ma Rainey in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, and Effie White in Dreamgirls.
Her performances have earned her numerous accolades, including several Joseph Jefferson Awards (Chicago's equivalent of the Tony Awards), Helen Hayes Awards, and a Black Theatre Alliance Award. In 2018, Butler was honored with the Sarah Siddons Society Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the Chicago theater community.
Aside from her work on stage, Butler is also an accomplished singer and recording artist. She has released several albums, including E. Faye Butler Sings Billie Holiday, Jazz Ain't Nothin' But Soul, and The Music That Makes Me Dance.
