Initially, Falkirk played in local leagues before being invited to join the Scottish Football League in 1902. They won their first major trophy, the Scottish Cup, in 1913 by defeating Raith Rovers 2-0 in the final. This success was followed by another Scottish Cup win in 1957 and two league titles in 1957-58 and 2004-05.
Falkirk has also had success in European competition, reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1961-62, where they were eliminated by eventual winners Atlético Madrid.
The Bairns have a fierce rivalry with nearby clubs St. Mirren and Partick Thistle, with matches between the three teams known as the "Firhill Triangle". However, Falkirk's main derby match is against fellow town club East Stirlingshire, with whom they contest the Falkirk Derby.
In recent years, Falkirk has experienced financial difficulties, resulting in their relegation from the Scottish Championship in 2019. They now play in Scottish League One, the third tier of Scottish football.
Despite their struggles, Falkirk remains a proud and historic club with loyal supporters who continue to cheer on their team through thick and thin.
