De La Mora was born on October 13th, 1965, in Asunción, Paraguay. He began his music career as a member of the Children's Choir of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Asuncion. Later, he studied at the National Conservatory of Music, where he specialized in voice and piano.
In 1992, De La Mora achieved international recognition when he won first prize at the Luciano Pavarotti Voice Competition in Philadelphia.
