On July 25th, 2015 the FIA Formula E VISA London ePrix took place in London, England. This was an historic moment for electric auto racing as it was the first time in over 40 years that a motor race had been held on the streets of the capital city.

Formula E is a relatively new form of motorsport which aims to promote sustainable technology and green energy whilst also providing exciting racing to fans around the world. Unlike Formula One which uses petrol powered cars and regularly races on normal race tracks such as Silverstone, Monaco or Spa-Francorchamps, Formula E takes place on temporary street circuits in big cities all around the world. This provides a unique challenge for drivers, as they must navigate tight corners, narrow chicanes and bumpy roads without damaging their cars.

The London ePrix was the eleventh round of the second season of the championship and it was one of the most eagerly anticipated races of the year. The track had a mix of high and low speed corners, which made it a challenging circuit for drivers and engineers alike. Despite some technical problems during the free practice sessions, the race itself was a thrilling spectacle with plenty of overtaking manoeuvres and heart-stopping moments.

One of the standout moments of the race was when British driver Sam Bird overtook Sebastien Buemi for the lead after a brilliantly judged move on the inside of turn 1. Bird went on to win the race, which was his second victory of the season.

The London ePrix demonstrated just how much progress has been made in electric auto racing over the last few years. The cars are fast, agile and provide excellent racing, whilst at the same time being environmentally friendly. These technological advances have already started to influence the development of electric vehicles in the consumer market, as many of the components used in Formula E cars can also be found in road-going electric cars.
