The Fort Worth Brahmas were a professional ice hockey team that played in the Central Hockey League (CHL) from 1997 to 2013. The team was originally founded in 1992 as the Tulsa Oilers before relocating to Fort Worth five years later. Although the Brahmas' existence was relatively short-lived, they left a lasting impact on the North Texas region and the sport of hockey in general.

Before the Brahmas, the Dallas/Fort Worth area had never had a professional hockey team. This made the arrival of the Brahmas in 1997 a major milestone for Texas sports fans who were looking for something new and exciting to cheer for. Led by head coach Doug Shedden, the Brahmas made their debut at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena and drew large crowds to their games.

One of the most memorable moments in Brahmas history came during the 1999-2000 season when they won the CHL championship, defeating the Wichita Thunder in six games. The decisive victory came on home ice and sparked an outpouring of celebration from fans and players alike. The team repeated as champions the following season, cementing their status as one of the top teams in minor league hockey.

Over the years, the Brahmas continued to build a loyal fanbase in Fort Worth and surrounding areas. They also served as a proving ground for many young players hoping to make it to the NHL. Notable alumni include former Dallas Stars captain Brenden Morrow, defenseman Trevor Daley, and forward Richard Matvichuk.

Despite their on-ice success and strong fan support, the Brahmas struggled financially towards the end of their tenure in the CHL. In 2013, they announced they would suspend operations indefinitely due to mounting debts and other financial issues.

Today, the Fort Worth Brahmas remain a cherished part of North Texas sports history. Their legacy lives on through the memories of fans who packed the Convention Center Arena to watch them play and the players who learned valuable lessons about teamwork, determination, and hard work. While the team may no longer be active, their impact on the sport of hockey in Texas cannot be denied.
