Friends of Night People is a non-profit organization that has been serving the homeless community in Buffalo, NY since 1969. Their mission is to provide meals, clothing, and basic necessities to those in need, as well as offering support and resources to help individuals get back on their feet.

However, Friends of Night People's impact goes beyond just providing basic needs. They have also been involved in theater productions that highlight issues surrounding homelessness and poverty. The organization understands that art can be a powerful tool for raising awareness and promoting empathy towards marginalized communities.

One of Friends of Night People's most notable endeavors in this area was their collaboration with Irish Classical Theatre Company (ICTC) in producing a play called "The Guys". The play is about a New York City fire captain who lost eight members of his department in the September 11th attacks, and how he copes with the tragedy by working with a writer to compose eulogies for his fallen colleagues. Through this touching story, the play highlights the strength and resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable loss.

Friends of Night People provided assistance to ICTC during rehearsals and helped promote the play through their outreach efforts. They also hosted a panel discussion after one of the performances, bringing together community members, artists, and service providers to discuss the themes of the show and how they relate to local issues.

Another theater project that Friends of Night People has been involved in is "Another Street", a play by Canadian playwright Joan MacLeod. The play tells the stories of three individuals experiencing homelessness, each dealing with their own unique challenges and circumstances. The production premiered in 2015 at Canisius College, and Friends of Night People was a proud partner in the project.

Through these collaborations and others like them, Friends of Night People has shown that art can be an effective vehicle for social change. By supporting theater productions that focus on issues surrounding homelessness, poverty, and other social justice concerns, Friends of Night People is helping to raise awareness and promote empathy among the general public. They are demonstrating that when we listen to stories and hear from those who have been marginalized, we can begin to break down barriers and build stronger, more compassionate communities.
