Improv 1 FRI-Nahnsen Class & Improv 2 THURS-Bills Class Show in relation to Comedy

The art of improvisation has become a staple of modern comedy. Each week, improv classes all over the world teach aspiring comedians how to think on their feet and come up with new material. These classes culminate in end-of-term performances, where students show off what they’ve learned to an audience.

Two improv classes that recently held their end-of-term shows were Improv 1 FRI-Nahnsen Class and Improv 2 THURS-Bills Class. Both shows were held at the same venue and had a similar format, but each had its own unique style.

Improv 1 FRI-Nahnsen Class was a beginner’s class and it showed. While there were moments of brilliance, most of the show felt very safe and by-the-numbers. The performers seemed hesitant to take risks and often relied on tried-and-true improv tropes like “Yes, and…” and “It’s hot today, huh?” That being said, there were a few standout performers who really shone.

One performer in particular, a woman named Emily, seemed to be a cut above the rest. She was confident, outgoing, and had a natural stage presence. Her scenes were always funny and well-paced, and she had a real knack for calling back jokes from earlier in the show.

Improv 2 THURS-Bills Class, on the other hand, was a much more polished performance. The performers were all more experienced and it showed. They were willing to take bigger risks and play with concepts that might have been too advanced for the earlier class. There were still some missteps, but they were fewer and farther between.

One particularly memorable scene involved two performers playing characters who were stuck in a never-ending game of tic-tac-toe. They went through all the usual moves (X in the center, O in the corner) before realizing they were trapped in a loop. It was an ingenious concept that was executed perfectly.

Overall, both shows were enjoyable and showcased the talent of their respective performers. While Improv 1 FRI-Nahnsen Class was definitely more of a beginner’s show, it still had its moments of brilliance. And while Improv 2 THURS-Bills Class was more polished, it wasn’t always as fresh or exciting as the earlier class. But both groups should be commended for having the courage to get up on stage and perform in front of an audience. It takes guts to do improv, but when it works, it can be one of the funniest forms of comedy out there.
