Comedy is an art form that requires quick wit, creativity, and the ability to think on your feet. Improvisation, or improv, takes these skills to the next level by removing the safety net of prepared material and forcing performers to rely solely on their instincts and collaboration with others.

The Improv 3 WED-Morency Class and Improv 3 WED-Cackowski Class Show are two examples of how improvisational comedy can showcase the talents of performers who are skilled at thinking on their feet and developing comedic scenes in real-time.

The Morency class, taught by instructor Danny Mannion, focuses on developing strong character work and scene building through exercises and games that allow students to explore different improvisational techniques. Participants learn how to develop characters on the fly, use physicality and vocal inflection to convey emotions, and build dynamic scenes that keep audiences engaged and laughing.

The Cackowski class, taught by instructor Neil Casey, emphasizes building relationships between characters and committing to choices made during the performance. Students practice creating coherent scenes that follow a clear arc, while still allowing for spontaneity and new ideas to emerge.

Both classes culminate in a weekly show where students have the opportunity to showcase their skills as improvisers in front of a live audience. The performances are spontaneous, unpredictable, and often riotously funny. Audience members never know exactly what they'll see when they attend an improv show, but they can always count on being thoroughly entertained.

What makes improv so appealing to audiences is the sense of surprise and spontaneity it provides. Even performers don't know what will happen next, and they must rely on their wit, creativity, and trust in their fellow performers to make each scene work. Because improv is so unpredictable, every performance offers something entirely unique and unscripted.

Improvisational comedy is just one genre of comedy, but it offers a truly exhilarating experience both for the performers and the audience. With the Morency and Cackowski classes, students have the opportunity to hone their skills as improvisers and showcase their talents in an unpredictable but always entertaining setting.
