In.Motion: Via Rail Tickets

In.Motion is a unique and creative collaboration between Via Rail and Canadian dance company Ballet BC. The project features an inspiring blend of contemporary dance, music, and stunning landscapes as passengers of Via Rail are taken on a journey across the country to experience unforgettable dance performances.

The In.Motion project was developed to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary and to showcase some of the country's most beautiful scenery through the lens of art and culture. The idea came from John Mann, the lead singer of folk-rock band Spirit of the West, who dreamed up a creative way to celebrate the country's anniversary by bringing together two creative forces - contemporary dance and Via Rail.

Ballet BC, one of Canada's premiere contemporary dance companies, was chosen to collaborate with Via Rail for the In.Motion project. The dancers used the train as their stage, providing passengers with impromptu performances in unexpected locations throughout the rail journey.

The shows were choreographed by Emily Molnar, Ballet BC's innovative artistic director, who used the natural environment and architecture of the railway stations as the setting for the movement routines. The dancers drew inspiration from the diversity of the Canadian landscape, highlighting the beauty of the country's cities, wilderness areas, and iconic landmarks.

The musical score was also an integral aspect of In.Motion, featuring original compositions from pianist and songwriter Owen Pallett. The music complemented the visual characteristics of each location, creating an immersive sensory experience for passengers onboard.
