This allowed the playhouse to revitalize its programming and facilities, and ultimately led to its resurgence as one of the top regional theaters in the country.

She has served on the board of trustees for the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., and is also a member of the advisory council for the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, New York. And when she’s not cooking or visiting the theater, she enjoys reading scripts and attending rehearsals to expand her knowledge of the field.

Despite her diverse interests, Garten has maintained her love for both food and theater throughout her career. She often talks about the similarities between cooking and performing, noting that they both require improvisation, timing, and a willingness to take risks.

“[Cooking] is like staging a play,” she told Playbill in 2015. “You have to make sure everything is set out on the counter in the right order, you have to make sure all your mise en place is done, and the timing has to be perfect.”
