Indianapolis 500: A.J. Foyt Day Tickets

The Indianapolis 500 is one of the biggest auto racing events in the world, with millions of fans tuning in to watch every year. One driver who has left an indelible mark on the race is A.J. Foyt, a legend in the sport and winner of the Indy 500 four times.

In recognition of his contributions to the race and to the sport of auto racing as a whole, the city of Indianapolis declared August 16th as A.J. Foyt Day back in 2015. The day is meant to honor Foyt's remarkable career as well as his commitment to the community.

Born in Houston, Texas in 1935, Foyt began his racing career at the age of 18, competing in local events across the state. He quickly made a name for himself with his fearless driving style and natural talent behind the wheel.

Foyt first entered the Indy 500 in 1958 and went on to compete in the race a total of 35 times over the course of his career. He won the race for the first time in 1961 and then again in 1964, 1967, and 1977, cementing his place in history as one of the greatest drivers of all time.

But Foyt's accomplishments go far beyond his wins at the Indy 500. He also won the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the 12 Hours of Sebring, among many other races. In fact, he is one of the few drivers to have won major races in each of the four categories recognized by the International Motorsport Federation: Formula One, sports cars, NASCAR, and Indy car racing.

Throughout his career, Foyt was known for his intense dedication to the sport and his never-give-up attitude. He competed in his final Indy 500 in 1993 at the age of 58 and continued to be involved in auto racing as a team owner and mentor to younger drivers.

Today, Foyt's legacy lives on through his namesake racing team, A.J. Foyt Enterprises, which continues to compete at the highest levels of the sport. In honor of A.J. Foyt Day, events are held across Indianapolis to celebrate the driver's achievements and contributions to the community.
