The Indianapolis Ice was a minor league ice hockey team that played in the International Hockey League (IHL) from 1988 to 1999, and later in the Central Hockey League (CHL) from 2012 to 2014. The team was founded in 1988 by a group of local businessmen and played its home games at the Market Square Arena.

Over the years, the Indianapolis Ice developed a loyal fan base and established itself as a competitive team in the IHL. During its first season, it made it to the Turner Cup Finals but lost to the Muskegon Lumberjacks. In the following years, the team continued to make playoff appearances but never won a championship.

One of the most memorable moments in Indianapolis Ice history happened during the 1991-1992 season when the team set a record for most wins in a single season with 57. Led by goalie Jim Waite and forward Reg Dunlop, the team finished first in the East Division and advanced to the Turner Cup Finals for the second time in its history. However, they fell short again, losing to the Fort Wayne Komets.

Despite their lack of championships, the Indianapolis Ice produced several notable players who went on to play in the National Hockey League (NHL). These include Paul Ysebaert, Steve Dubinsky, Brian Noonan, and Kris Draper.

After the 1998-1999 season, the IHL folded, and the Indianapolis Ice ceased operations. It wasn't until more than a decade later in 2012 that the team was revived and joined the CHL. However, the new incarnation of the team failed to replicate the success of its predecessor and disbanded after just two seasons.

Today, the legacy of the Indianapolis Ice lives on through its former players and the memories of the fans who cheered them on. While the team may not have won any championships, its impact on the city of Indianapolis and its hockey community cannot be denied.
