Vogler’s passion for theater goes back to his childhood. Growing up in East Germany, Jan was surrounded by both music and theater and had the opportunity to attend performances from a young age. After studying at the prestigious Leipzig Conservatory, Vogler embarked on an international career as a soloist and chamber musician. But, the theater still held a special place in his heart, and he soon began to incorporate it into his work as a musician.
One of Vogler’s most memorable collaborations was with actor Bill Murray. The unlikely duo teamed up for a spoken word and music tour called “New Worlds,” in which they combined classic literature, poetry, and music to explore the theme of American identity. The show featured Murray reading passages from Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, and Walt Whitman, while Vogler and his ensemble provided musical accompaniment.
Vogler’s work in theater also extends to his role as music director of the Dresden Music Festival. Under his leadership, the festival has expanded its scope to include not only classical music but also theater, dance, and visual arts.
In recent years, Vogler has taken his involvement in theater even further by working as a theatrical producer. His company, Moritzbastei Productions, has produced plays and operas in Germany and internationally.
