John Grisham may be one of the most successful writers of legal thrillers in the world, but his love for theater goes beyond his bestselling novels. Grisham was born in 1955 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to a construction worker and a homemaker. He grew up in Mississippi, where he later attended college and earned a law degree. The play premiered at Washington D.C.'s Arena Stage before moving to Broadway, where it ran for almost two months.

Aside from A Time to Kill, Grisham has also been involved in other theater-related projects. In 2007, he wrote a one-act play called "A Memphis Christmas," which was performed as part of a holiday event at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee. The play tells the story of a homeless woman who meets an angel on Christmas Eve and is offered a chance to change her life.
