Johnny Lombardi was a Canadian radio and television personality who made a lasting impact on the world of comedy. He was born in Toronto, Canada in 1915 to Italian immigrants and grew up in an Italian neighborhood called Little Italy.

Lombardi started his career in broadcasting in the 1940s when he worked for a local radio station in Toronto. He quickly became known for his humor and charisma, which led him to start his own show called "Club 880" in 1948. The show featured live music and comedy acts and became the first multicultural radio show in Canada.

In addition to his work on the radio, Lombardi also co-founded the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's television show "Cross Canada Hit Parade" in 1955. The show was one of the first Canadian programs to feature both English and French performers, showcasing diverse cultures from across the country.

Lombardi went on to host several other successful radio and television shows, including "Mister Show Biz" and "Italian Carrousel". What set Lombardi apart from other broadcasters was his ability to connect with people from all walks of life and his dedication to promoting multiculturalism.

Lombardi used comedy as a means of bringing people together and breaking down cultural barriers. As a result, he paved the way for other comedians to do the same. His influence can still be seen today in many comedians who use their platforms to promote diversity and inclusion.

Lombardi passed away in 2002 at the age of 86, but his legacy lives on. In honor of his contributions to Canadian culture, Toronto named a street after him in Little Italy, where he spent much of his life.

Overall, Johnny Lombardi was a trailblazer who used comedy to promote diversity and bring people together. He will always be remembered as a pioneer in Canadian broadcasting and a champion of multiculturalism.
