Ken Jeong first gained fame as an actor in the hit comedy movie, “The Hangover.” However, what many people don’t know is that he was already well known in the comedy world long before he became a Hollywood star.

Jeong began his comedy career while studying medicine at the University of North Carolina. He participated in open-mic nights and honed his skills as a stand-up comedian. After completing his medical degree, Jeong moved to Los Angeles to pursue both his medical career and his passion for comedy.

In LA, Jeong continued to perform stand-up comedy and even joined the popular improvisation group, The Groundlings. It was through his work with The Groundlings that Jeong caught the attention of Judd Apatow, who cast him in several projects including “Knocked Up” and “Pineapple Express.”

Despite his success in Hollywood, Jeong never gave up his love for comedy. In fact, he credits his background in stand-up comedy for helping him develop his acting skills. Jeong has said that being a stand-up comedian allows him to be more vulnerable and make bold choices as an actor.

Jeong’s talent for comedy can be seen not only in his performances but also in his writing. He co-created and starred in the short-lived sitcom “Dr. Ken,” loosely based on his experiences as a physician. Additionally, he has served as a writer on several TV shows including “The Office” and “The Masked Singer,” which he also hosts.

One of the hallmarks of Jeong’s comedy is his shameless willingness to push boundaries. His characters often embody exaggerated caricatures of Asian stereotypes, despite the potential for backlash from some audiences. However, Jeong says that his goal is always to find humor in unexpected places and challenge preconceived notions about race and culture.

In recent years, Jeong has become somewhat of a cultural icon, thanks in part to his scene-stealing role as the eccentric gangster Leslie Chow in “The Hangover” trilogy. He has also made multiple appearances on “Saturday Night Live” and is a regular contributor to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Overall, Ken Jeong’s ability to seamlessly blend his medical background with his passion for comedy has made him a standout figure in the entertainment industry. His fearlessness in pushing comedic boundaries, combined with his undeniable talent, ensures that he will continue to bring laughter to audiences for years to come.
