The Kentucky IndyCar race was first introduced to the IndyCar series in 2000 as a part of the Indy Racing League (IRL) championship. From 2003 to 2011, the race became a regular feature on the schedule and was known for its exciting wheel-to-wheel racing.
Over the years, the Kentucky IndyCar race produced some memorable moments, including several close finishes and surprise winners. In 2009, Ryan Briscoe won the race by just .016 seconds over rival Ed Carpenter, marking one of the closest finishes in IndyCar history.
In addition to being a favorite among fans, the Kentucky IndyCar race was also a critical stop on the IndyCar schedule. The tight, high-banked track allowed for plenty of passing and made it difficult for drivers to maintain their position, adding to the excitement of the race.
However, despite its popularity and success, the Kentucky IndyCar race was ultimately removed from the IndyCar schedule after the 2011 season due to financial issues and declining attendance.
