Pulev started his career in Boxing in 2009 after he had success in an amateur career that saw him become an Olympian for Bulgaria. Since then, he has gone on to achieve many great things, which have cemented his name in the sport's history.
Pulev has an impressive record as a professional boxer, with 28 wins and only 2 losses. His fighting style is known for its tactical precision and ability to read his opponents' moves. This has been evident in some of his most notable fights against various fighters, including Samuel Peter, Tony Thompson, Hughie Fury, and Anthony Joshua.
One of Pulev's advancement points was when he defeated Tony Thompson in August 2016. The win made him the mandatory challenger for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight title fought for by Anthony Joshua and Charles Martin. However, due to a shoulder injury, he withdrew from the fight. Later in 2018, he bounced back and won all three of his matches, including one against Hughie Fury, Tyson Fury's cousin.
In December 2019, Pulev faced American Heavyweight contender Rydell Booker whom he beat via a unanimous decision. The victory set up his long-awaited fight with Anthony Joshua, which was originally scheduled for June 20, 2020, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. However, due to the Covid pandemic, the bout was rescheduled several times, and eventually took place on December 12th, 2020.
The highly anticipated encounter saw Pulev challenging for three world titles held by the Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua. Pulev, with his tactics and movements chased Joshua around the ring, hitting him with some few shots, though Joshua knocked Pulev down three times in the match before eventually winning the fight via a technical knockout in the ninth round.
Throughout his career, Pulev has shown incredible determination and discipline to reach the heights he has. He is an inspiration to many young boxers who are looking to excel in the sport of boxing. Despite his loss to Joshua, there's no doubt that Pulev's significant achievements and competitive attitude will continue to shape the world of professional boxing for years to come.
