Lauren Graham is a versatile actress, known for her work in television and film. However, she also has an extensive background in theater, which has helped shape her career and hone her craft.

Graham grew up in Virginia and spent much of her childhood participating in community theater productions. Her passion for the stage continued into college, where she majored in English at Barnard College but also performed in various productions at Columbia University.

After college, Graham pursued acting full-time and began to focus on theater. She appeared in off-Broadway productions, including "The Actress" and "Once in a Lifetime," before making her Broadway debut in 1996 with a small role in "My Favorite Year."

In 2000, Graham starred in the off-Broadway production of "Wit," playing a young cancer patient. Her performance was critically acclaimed and helped launch her career in television.

Although Graham is now best known for her television roles, including Lorelai Gilmore on "Gilmore Girls" and Sarah Braverman on "Parenthood," she has continued to pursue theater throughout her career. In 2009, she starred in the Broadway play "Guys and Dolls," playing the lead role of Miss Adelaide.

More recently, Graham returned to the stage in the 2018 play "The Royal Family," a revival of the 1927 comedy by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber. She played Julie Cavendish, a member of a renowned acting dynasty who must navigate her own career and personal life while dealing with the eccentricities of her family.

Graham's experience in theater is evident in her approach to acting, which involves a focus on character development and storytelling. Speaking to The New York Times about her role in "The Royal Family," Graham said, "In theater, you get to go deep into the character and the story. You don’t have to worry about all these technical things. It’s just you and the other actors, and the audience."

Her work in theater has also helped her connect with fans on a more personal level. During a panel discussion at Vulture Festival in 2018, Graham spoke about the unique experience of performing live for an audience: “There is something alive about what we’re doing, and even if it’s six months in or eight months in, there’s always a level of freshness that comes from the moment of contact [with the audience].”

Overall, Lauren Graham's background in theater has been a significant influence on her career as an actress. She continues to value the opportunity to perform on stage and connect with audiences in a unique way. With her talent and versatility, it's clear that Graham's contributions to theater will continue to be notable in the years to come.
