Lawrence Brownlee is one of the most prominent classical singers in the world today. He is an American tenor who has performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and La Scala in Milan.

Brownlee was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and started singing as a child in his church choir. He went on to study music at Anderson University in Indiana, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree. He then earned a Master of Music degree from Indiana University, where he studied with world-renowned vocal coach, Virginia Zeani.

Brownlee’s career took off after winning the Marian Anderson Award in 2006, which recognized him as a rising young star in the world of classical music. Since then, he has been recognized as one of the leading tenors of his generation, known for his remarkable vocal range and power, as well as his ability to convey deep emotion through his performances.

One of Brownlee’s signature roles is Count Almaviva in “The Barber of Seville,” which he has performed to critical acclaim in productions around the world. He has also appeared in other major operas such as “Don Giovanni,” “La Cenerentola,” and “Norma.”

In addition to his opera work, Brownlee has also made a name for himself as a concert performer, collaborating with some of the greatest orchestras in the world, such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Beyond his impressive technical abilities, Brownlee is also known for his advocacy for diversity and inclusion in classical music. He is one of the founders of the “Art Song Preservation Society of New York,” which promotes the performance and preservation of classic art songs from around the world. He has also been open about facing racism and discrimination within the classical music industry, and has used his platform to promote greater representation of diverse voices on stage.

Lawrence Brownlee is a truly towering figure in the world of classical music, whose talents and activism have inspired countless others within the industry. We look forward to seeing what he will accomplish next as he continues to push the boundaries of what is possible for classical music.
