Matt Besser is one of the most influential and innovative comedians in the history of comedy. A co-founder of the famed Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) improv and sketch comedy group, Besser has been pushing the envelope of comedic performance for over three decades.

Besser was born on September 22, 1967, in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he attended Amherst College in Massachusetts before moving to Chicago to pursue his love of comedy. In 1990, he co-founded the UCB with fellow comedians Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh. The group quickly became a fixture of the Chicago comedy scene, developing a unique style that relied on improvisation and audience interaction.

In 1996, Besser and the UCB moved to New York City, where they began performing regularly at a small theater in Chelsea. As their reputation grew, they were invited to perform at the prestigious Aspen Comedy Festival, where they caught the attention of producers from MTV, who offered them their own TV show.

The UCB's eponymous TV show premiered on Comedy Central in 1998, and quickly established itself as one of the most groundbreaking and influential sketch comedy shows of its time. The UCB continued to perform improv and sketch comedy live in New York and Los Angeles, spawning a new generation of comedians inspired by their fearless, boundary-breaking approach.

Throughout his career, Besser has remained committed to pushing the envelope of comedy, never shying away from controversial or taboo subjects. He has performed stand-up comedy across the country, released several critically acclaimed comedy albums, and written and starred in a number of TV shows and movies.

Most recently, he has become known for his podcasting work, hosting several popular podcasts, including "Improv4Humans" and "Freedom! with Matt Besser." These podcasts feature interviews with fellow comedians, deep dives into the creative process, and often hilarious improvised comedy sketches.

Besser's impact on the world of comedy cannot be overstated. He has been a driving force behind some of the most innovative and groundbreaking comedy of the past three decades, inspiring countless comedians to follow in his footsteps. With his boundless energy, fearless creativity, and razor-sharp wit, Matt Besser is a true legend of comedy.
