Mitu, short for the Mitu Network, is a Latinx entertainment company with a mission to amplify Latino voices through film, television, and digital content. While much of their focus centers on creating compelling content for screen-based platforms, the company also has roots in theater productions.

In 2016, Mitu collaborated with social justice theater group ImaginAction to produce the play "Prometeo," written by Argentinian playwright Griselda Gambaro. The production was staged at the Getty Villa in Malibu, California and explored themes of oppression and resistance through the classic Greek myth of Prometheus.

The collaboration between Mitu and ImaginAction was an exciting merging of two organizations with similar values; both companies are committed to advancing representation and advocacy for marginalized communities. The play was performed in Spanish with English surtitles – a nod to Mitu's commitment to preserving and celebrating Latinx culture and language.

Additionally, Mitu has experimented with theatrical forms in their online content. In 2018, the company launched a web series called "Roommate Wanted," in which characters navigated interpersonal relationships and unexpected challenges while sharing an apartment. The show's multi-camera setup and laugh track format mimicked sitcoms popularized in the mid-20th century. However, the stories and characters were anything but outdated; the show tackled contemporary topics like gentrification and identity politics.

Even though Mitu has made a name for itself primarily through social media and Youtube presence, it continues to seek out new ways of storytelling. Theater can offer a unique challenge and opportunity to connect with audiences in different ways than digital platforms.
