Born in Philadelphia, McAleer grew up with a love for storytelling. She attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied English writing and theater arts, and moved to Los Angeles after graduating college to pursue a writing career.

McAleer's first foray into theater came when she produced a play called "Adult Education" in 2006. The production, which focused on three friends who reunite at their community college class reunion, was well-received and helped build McAleer's reputation in the Los Angeles theater community.

In 2008, McAleer took on another production role for the play "Hot Toddy," which went on to win several awards, including Best Play at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. The following year, she produced "Nobody Likes Molly McAleer," a solo show that saw the comedian take to the stage to tell her own story.

But it wasn't just behind the scenes where McAleer found success. In 2010, she appeared in the play "This is War" by Hannah Moscovitch, which explored the realities of modern warfare through the perspective of four soldiers. She went on to write for shows like "2 Broke Girls," "Chelsea Lately," and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and co-created the web series "The Break-Up Diaries."

In addition, McAleer co-hosts the popular podcast "Plz Advise," where she and a guest give advice to listeners on everything from dating to work issues. With over 100 episodes, the podcast has built a dedicated fanbase and helped bring McAleer's humor and storytelling to a wider audience.

Today, McAleer continues to write and create content across various mediums, but her experience in theater undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping her career.
