One of the most successful seasons for the Privateers women’s basketball team was in 2018-19 when they finished with a 19-11 record and made it to the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament. They were led by senior guard Randi Brown, who averaged over 20 points per game and was named the Southland Conference Player of the Year. Brown is now playing professionally in Portugal.
Another standout player from the Privateers women's basketball team is Keke Veal, who played from 2012-2016. Veal was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in her senior season and still holds the school record for career points scored with 2,071. She went on to play professionally in Greece.
The Privateers women's basketball team has had success both on and off the court, with several players earning academic honors. In the 2019-20 season, five players were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team.
Despite being a relatively small program in terms of resources and recruiting, the Privateers women's basketball team has shown that they can compete with some of the top teams in the country. They have had several close games against bigger programs, such as Mississippi State and LSU.
