Northeastern University has a long and storied history when it comes to hockey. The school, located in Boston, Massachusetts, is a member of the prestigious Hockey East conference and has consistently been one of the top teams in the league for many years. From legendary players to memorable games, Northeastern's hockey program has left an indelible mark on the sport.

Perhaps the most recognizable name associated with Northeastern hockey is Jim Madigan. Madigan was a standout player for the Huskies in the 1980s and later served as an assistant coach before being named head coach in 2011. Under his leadership, the program has enjoyed much success, including winning the Hockey East championship in 2016 and 2019.

Another notable alum is Dave Silk, who played for Northeastern in the 1970s before embarking on a successful professional career that included playing for the legendary 1980 United States Olympic hockey team. Other former players who have gone on to success in the NHL include Jason Guerriero, Brad Thiessen, and Kevin Roy.

Of course, Northeastern's proud hockey tradition isn't all about individuals. The team has had many memorable moments throughout its history. One of the most famous came in 2009 when the Huskies faced Boston University in the Hockey East championship game. Down 3-1 with just minutes remaining, Northeastern rallied to score two late goals and force overtime, only to lose on a controversial penalty call that gave BU a power play. Despite the disappointing end, it was a thrilling game that epitomized the grit and determination that has become a hallmark of Northeastern hockey.

The 2020-21 season was unlike any other due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Northeastern still managed to make noise on the ice. Led by standout goaltender Devon Levi, who was named Hockey East Rookie of the Year and was drafted by the Florida Panthers, the team finished with a respectable 10-8-3 record.

Looking ahead, the future is bright for Northeastern hockey. The program has consistently recruited top talent, and with the leadership of Madigan and his coaching staff, there's no reason to believe that success won't continue in the years to come. As fans eagerly await the return of live sports, Northeastern remains a school that hockey fans should have their eyes on.
